Libby Craver is an accomplished Technical Communicator, Publications and Instructional Designer, and Database Developer. She received her Bachelor degree in English from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas as well as was the first graduate from UNLV’s Professional Writing Certificate Program.
Early in her career, Libby worked for two Park and Recreation Departments designing flyers, managing enrichment classes, assisting with special events and running summer and holiday kid’s camps. She also worked for a number of years as a department manager for two national retail outlets.
During the technology boom, Libby began to get more involved in the field of Technical Communication. She was employed at two different dot com companies doing everything from customer service, writing business plans and designing marketing and training materials to building custom Access database applications.
Libby’s experience with various programming languages including VB, SQL, and HTML, enabled her to obtain a position documenting software engineering processes for a major software developer in the southwest. During this time she also learned more about XML and .NET, two of the newest emerging technologies at the time.
From there, Libby served as the Managing Editor for a newly created Training Department. Working closely with company executives, she defined all of the department’s procedures and templates, hired and managed 10+ technical writers, implemented two Learning Management Systems (LMS), two document management/workflow systems, e-learning content standards and various company-wide training initiatives as well as edited all training documents and designed three large equipment training manuals. She also worked closely with executive management to ensure the IT department was Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliant.
Most recently, Libby had the opportunity to start Written Designs. Libby had a long-standing dream of creating a company that could provide a high-quality technical writing and publication design services to a variety of business. Libby enjoys the challenges and rewards that come with working on projects from a various industries. She also gets excited about helping growing companies take their documentation and publications to the next level.
Libby is an active member of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) and has won various awards for her publications and documentation, including an STC Excellence Award for a Technical Publication Department Style Guide and an STC Merit Award for an the 2003 NSBDC Annual Report.
